Tokyo Noni Research Center (TNRC) is so pleased to express the sincere appreciation for the efforts of ANAMed and its distinguished members to introduce the quality of Mengkudu (Noni) juice to Indonesian people who concern health.

Needless to say, Mengkudu is the fruit of Indonesian origin and grown under unpolluted environments without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
TNRC has proved that Indonesian Mengkudu has a variety of physiological actions good enough for health care.

Your Mengkudu juice is freshly squeezed from ripened fruits. This type of Mengkudu juice is only one in the world. Therefore, freshly squeezed and bio-tasted juice has been enjoyed by Japanese people.

Noni, Indonesian Indigenous Medicinal Fruit

Origin of Noni is Maluku islands according to Ridley.
Present Indonesian race immigrated to Indonesia from the coastal areas of southern China about 6,000 years ago.
As everyone supposes, they found miracle fruits, abundant anywhere, harvest all around year, rich in nutrition, good for health, various usage of tree like dye of fish net, wrapping foods with leaves, and so on.
That is Noni.
People in Indonesia plant at least one Noni tree at their garden as to access Noni daily or whenever necessary.

Spread of Noni from Indonesia

Around 2~3,000 years ago, naval groups started to immigrate eastward, Melanesia and Polynesia by small boats with Noni and many plants, resulting in spread to these small islands in the Pacific ocean.
They knew that Noni is very important food and medicine in their voyages.

It is said that it was 1,500 years ago when the immigrants arrived at Hawaii.
Indonesian fishermen might bring Noni fruit which subsequently reached to southern Japan.
Sea-traders spread Noni to western areas.
Now Noni trees are naturally grown between north and south tropic of Capricorn.

Noni, Imperative Obat

Noni is one the most important ingredients in Indonesian traditional medicinal system, Jamu.
Noni has been consumed as medicine, or Obat to prevent and/or cure various diseases.
Original meaning of Obat in Indonesia is to entertain/welcome customers with special beverages relaxing and reactivating them.

Jamu was developed in Jogjakarta area, Central Java.
Traditional medical doctors, Dukun in Java or Balian in Bali use Noni in main Jamu descriptions. Ordinary folks with knowledge of Jamu make beverage mixed with Noni and other materials.
Noni is not ordinal food stuff, but categorized as Traditional Medicine in Indonesia because of well-known and long-term experienced natural medicine. The descriptions and efficacies of Noni have been well-documented.


Publications on Noni in Indonesia

Except Indonesia, there are no histories in terms of traditional use and medicinal classification in the world.
“Cabe Puyang 2” is most notable text book on Jamu and compiles more than 30 prescriptions of Noni.

Nutrition of Indonesian Noni

Indonesian Noni is called “Mengkudu Besar” or “ Great Morinda”.
Under tropical climate with strong ultra-violet rays, chemical free cultivation and non-contamination with hazardous substance, Indonesia Noni is naturally well-grown and provides naturally occurring nutrients.

Proteins: 20 amino acids including essential amino acids for synthesis of  proteins/enzymes, saccharides and lipids
Carbohydrates: Dietary fibers including pectins, fructose, glucose, Inositol and so on.
Lipids: Unique fatty acids rich in medium chain fatty acids (Caproic acid, Caprylic acid, Capric acid) and essential fatty acids (linolic acid and alfa-linolenic acid).
In addition, phytosterol for hormone-synthesis.
Minerals: Almost complete contents, except iodine and selenium.
Vitamins: Water soluble vitamins and Vitamins E and K1.
Vitamin C level is one of the highest in the fruits.

Noni, Mother’s Fruit

From the special feature containing medium chain fatty acids, Indonesia Noni can be called “Mother’s Fruit”. Because breast milk of mothers contains medium chain fatty acids for self-protection from pathogenic micro-organisms and energy-generation of babies.
Medium chain fatty acids in ester forms in Noni give special odor and can be absorbed immediately from the guts.
Thus, medium chain fatty acids of Noni can work in the same way as milk of mothers.

Stronger special odor of Noni, much more effective in our bodies.

Active Ingredients of Indonesian Noni

In addition to nutritious elements, Noni has characteristics with unique active ingredients.

Dietary fiber, Pectin:
Nutrition of intestinal bacterial flora.
Butyric acid generation to inhibit blood vessels in cancers.

Vitamin C: about 180mg/dL
Anti-coagulation, collagen production and so on.

Medium chain fatty acids: C6~C12, rich in C8 (Caprylic acid)
Anti-virus, bacteria and protozoa,
Anti-convulsion, Dilation of blood vessels,
Lowering neutral lipids,
Energy/Heat generation, etc.

Scopoletin: High level in matured Noni fruit
Serotonin generation,
Liver cell protection from cancer, oxidation, inflammation
Anti-bacteria, Anti-coagulation,
Dilation of blood vessels

Iridoids: Asperdoside

However, biological functions of Noni may not be facilitated by individual ingredient, but by entire Noni elements.
We emphasize that Noni juice made from naturally grown, mature fruits can provide the most merits, but not isolated individual substance.

False Theory in Noni

One group in United State has been spreading the strange story and unscientific theories on Noni in order to promote their product in the world.
Many Noni companies and consumers in Japan have been believing them.

False 1: Noni is originated in Polynesia.
Correct answer: The origin of Noni is Maluku, Indonesia.

False 2: Nor-damnacanthal in Noni has anti-cancer action.
Correct answer: Nor-damnacanthal is extracted from the root, but not from the fruit.

False 3: Proxeronin in Noni is converted into Xeronin by enzyme,  Proxeroninase.
Correct answer: Proxeronin, Xeronin and Proxerininase are not present in this world.

False 4: Noni from Polynesia is helpful for patients with renal hemodialysis,  pregnancy or serious liver dysfunction.
Correct answer: Fruits rich in potassium is forbidden to give to patients with hemodialysis.

For the pregnant, Noni must not be recommendable to the pregnant before a critical period of bone formation, about 5 month.
Intake of Noni from Polynesia caused drug-induced like hepatotoxicity.

We must be honest before the nature of Noni and be smart and intellectual like traditional medical doctors (Dukun or Balian) before the consumers and patients
